About the Author

Harry Gardiner is Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse with degrees from American International College (BA), the University of Hawaii (MA), and the University of Manchester, England (PhD), where he met his wife, Ormsin, of Thailand. Married in both Buddhist and Christian ceremonies, he taught at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok for two years. I rented this textbook because it was required for my human development course. I'm in a grad school program and this textbook is so basic with the information that it provides that it is basically useless. This textbook might be good for a course designed for high school or college freshman, but for anyone that has had any courses on this subject matter this book will pretty much be useless.

The book reads very well, great quality but a little bit too conversational to me- that style should appeal to many people, though, because it's lacking a boring text style.

This book is an excellent resource. It gives you an understanding of other cultures and compares in the the culture of the United States in a way that helps you to understand the differences better. When you have these techniques instilled into your muscle memory you will not have to think about reacting in certain situations and your mind will be free to strategize. In order to find the best technique for you to use in a situation experimentation is needed. That is what training is for. When choosing, keep to the main JKD principles/concepts.This book focuses on the physical techniques and mental strategies of fighting and does attempt to explore the philosophical or spiritual side of JKD. Bruce Lee's the Tao of Jeet Kune Do is (in my opinion) the best source for anyone interested in that side of JKD and is highly recommended even for those who are not.I hope that you find the following exercises helpful in the development of your martial arts training no matter what your chosen style. This is important, because we are all built differently, and have various strengths, weaknesses, and preferences. Make the most of them, and learn from Bruce Lee and Sam Fury.

Techniques to create your own Jeet Kune Do taught really very well. This would be definitely helpful to you once you understand them and will be well equipped to analyze. This is actually pretty good. I am JKD instructor under a guro with certification under Guro Dan Inosanto. Sam covers the material fairly well.It's a good introduction to what JKD is.I'd recommend it. Most of Sam Fury's books are well written and a good over view of the subject.

A classic book with great insight into Jeet Kune Do. This book helps create better understanding of martial arts. Simple and easy to understand. Excellent book

There wasn't anything original here. Just rehashed material from other sources. I expected a lot more based on the other reviews.

I was extremely disappointed in this book. The description makes it sound like the author did a lot of research to develop this Day Trips book on Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Tucson. I found found many errors in the book by just doing simple google searches on the locations. I know the book is 2 years old as of this writing, but some of the incorrect facts have not changed in years according to the multiple sites I contacted. (Example: While the book says cameras are allowed as long as flash is not used at Kartchner Caverns State Park, the website clearly states no type of cameras are allowed including cell phones). I called the park and they told me this rule has been in effect since 2011. Another item that makes this book substandard is there are NO PICTURES of any of the trip sites. Something most people expect in this type of book. In fact, the same stock black and white photo is used more than 35 times in the book! It is the same photo that is used for the cover (at least the cover is in color). That alone showed how little effort went into researching this book. There is really NOTHING that a simple Google search would not do better. I was really looking forward to this being a useful guide for my trip to Arizona, but alas it is nothing more then dated, incorrect facts. Look elsewhere.

Used this book for many of the days we spent in the Phoenix area. I loved the way it organized day trips for you. The directions are perfect and descriptions accurate. This would be the one book I'd pick if I were going to choose a book again. I was saddened by the things listed we were unable to do because of lack of time! Also, I learned that Arizona is huge! Being situated in Phoenix, the Tucson and Flagstaff day trips would take a half day to get to. And, of course, I wanted to do some of them so badly, I will be going back and taking this book with me!

Great little book that gives you ideas for things to do and explore if you don't know the area. It has decent recommendations of not only what to see but the prices involved and the difficulty in getting there.I used it several times on my trip, along with another book. Well written and concise.

This book delivers some good ideas for day trips around Arizona. I have lived here for almost twenty years and found several places to visit in the book I had not thought of before. We have tried one of the trips in the book. All the information in the book was accurate and up to date. looking forward to trying some a bit further afield.

this is a nice book, lots of places to go and info. I wish they would make a motorbike , non highway version though.

Very disappointing travel book! Every photo in this book is of Montezuma’s castle.- there literally are no others! If the author actually traveled to these places wouldn’t it too easy to add an actual photo of that place???? I seriously think this is worst travel book I have ever purchased.

Excellent collection of trips. Lots of really useful information. I will probably wear this book out re-reading it.
