About the Author

Neil Gaiman is the New York Times bestselling author of the Newbery Medal-winning The Graveyard Book and Coraline, the basis for the hit movie. His other books include Anansi Boys, Neverwhere, American Gods, and Stardust, (winner of the American Library Association's Alex Award as one of 2000's top novels for young adults) as well as the short story collections M Is for Magic and Smoke and Mirrors. He is also the author of The Wolves in the Walls and The Day I Traded My Dad for Two Goldfish, both written for children. A gorgeous edition collecting several of the early Sandman stories by Neil Gaiman. I bought this as a gift for a friend and she was floored to receive it.

Obviously the Sandman is an incredible story and everyone should read it. But the hardcover absolute collection of the Sandman stories from Preludes and Nocturnes through Dream Country is very flawed. The binding was a mess in that that the plastic spine that held the signatures of pages spilt in half after it had separated from the cloth holding onto the cover itself. This happened before I had even finished my first read through. Lousy binding job, but incredible story. Stick with the paperback or hardcover volumes.

Absolutely awful binding. Completely falling apart. Very disappointing considering the price. The review is for the condition and quality of the book, not the story itself. (the Sandman series is one of my favorites, and Gaiman is my favorite author.)

I am very happy with this volume; I plan on getting the whole set, plus probably some of the related work (i.e. Absolute Death).The Sandman stories and artwork are classic. I don't know why this isn't required reading, really, it's all so solid.This edition is oversized, recolored, and contains extras (examples of early concept art, scripts, etc.)... all worth it in my opinion. It also comes in a slipcase. I read some other reviews that the binding was no good but I haven't had any issues with it.

Comprising Sandman numbers 1 to 20, the Absolute Sandman, Vol. 1 is the first of four oversized, slip-cased hardcover books that will reprint Neil Gaiman's Sandman completely (all 75 numbers, plus some extras). That alone would be highly recommended, but this book has also a new coloring, aproved my Neil himself, plus a new introduction by Paul Levitz, forewords by Gaiman, a copy of the script with sketches for Sandman #19 (A Midsummer Night's Dream) and also sketches from Gaiman and Michael Dringenberg on the Sandman proposal to DC back in the 80s. Ah, and also all 20 covers from Dave McKean.All of this would mean nothing if the book wasn't really good, and really good it is. Here you'll read the capture of the Lord of the Dreams and his comeback (early collected in "Preludes and Nocturnes"), his encounter with the deadly nightmare "The Corinthian" (previously collected in "The Doll's House), and four short stories from the past of Dream (as seen before in "Dream County" collection). Many great moments from the series are here: the confrontation in Hell with demons over his helmet, the serial killer convention, the encounter with his sister Death, and the already mentioned A Midsummer Night's Dream, the first and only comic book to win a World Fantasy Award.This book is a work of art, and high recommended. Can't wait to have the 4 of them on my bookshelf!

Love the absolute books. I own absolute hush and now sandman vol. 1 and I can "absolutely" say they are worth the money. This book especially. Provided, of course, that you don't pay the full cover price. It comes with an awesome slipcase cover and the book itself is leather bound and super classy looking. There are quite a few bonus features too, which for me is one of the main reasons I buy absolute. That and the oversized awesomeness of it all. It's like imax for comic books. Buy this if you love sandman. If you've never read sandman then perhaps start with a trade paperback or two but really that will almost be a waste of money because you will love it and end up wanting this edition. It collects the first 20 issues of the series. So worth the $65 price tag.

As a longtime Sandman reader, I found this volume to be everything I could ever desire in an Absolute Sandman. This book collects all of the first 20 issues of the landmark series, has re-colored 18 of the 20 issues (this is a HUGE upgrade) from and of the old trades. Trust me, if you are reading anything but the Absolute Edition, you are missing out on a lot of detail and pleasant art. And if you don't care about art (like I don't), you will still find the stories more enjoyable. This book will look good on your shelf, the spine will not break when you lay it flat, and if you ever enjoyed Sandman at all, you will love this series. Just think, these are the weakest issues of the series. Can't wait for Vol 2 and 3!Re-readability: 10/10*I always put re-readability in my reviews for people who like to keep their TPB to re-read*

The book came in great condition and is beautiful. The slipcase seems very durable and I love the leather binding on the book. It includes one of those built in cloth bookmarks which is really convenient. I’ve included pictures of the slipcase, the spine of the book and the book itself. If you are considering buying or on the fence about this purchase just go ahead and pull the trigger. It’s become one of my favorite hardcovers in my collection and I plan on collecting the rest of the series in the absolute format.

I own all 5 absolutes and I have to say I am impressed with it. Out of the five, volume 2 had very poor binding. The glue used was not evenly placed and the spine was separating from the pages. Luckily I was able to fix it myself. For a graphic novel of this price, you would have thought that they would do a better job at it. I bought vol 1 thru amazon and the remaining 4 from a different retailer as they were half off. For those planning to collect these, do some research on which site offers the best price.

He was a member of the 2015 World Series Champion Royals. BRET SABERHAGEN pitched for the Royals from 1984 through 1991. He won two Cy Young Awards (1985 and 1989) with the Royals and was the 1985 World Series Most Valuable Player. JEFF MONTGOMERY pitched for the Royals from 1988 through 1999. The three-time All-Star holds the franchise record with 304 career saves. FRANK WHITE played all 18 years of his Major League career, from 1973 through 1990, for the Kansas City Royals. I'm not a nosy person, and don't care to read about their lives.This book, however, I had to have! I'm a huge animal lover, a fan of Pit Bulls and Parolees, and this book, while having some personal info in it, is more about the dogs that mattered the most- a handful of them, anyway. THAT was the kind of nonfiction I could get behind, so I ordered an autographed copy of the book, preordered the Kindle version, and waited eagerly for midnight for the book to show up on my device.I devoured it in 2 sittings, only because sleep was necessary. If you love the show, you've seen Monster and Blueie. You watched the rescue of Lucky the "ghost dog". You saw pictures of Mariah's beautiful dog, L.A. Your heart hurts watching the show and you cry with each loss. Now you can read more about these special dogs that touched your heart from Tia Torres's perspective. I chuckled, I was excited to read more, I cried several times, and I was truly sorry to reach the end of the book.Ms. Torres, you've said you enjoy writing. I hope you will publish another with some more amazing dog stories. I'd love to read more about some other favorites, like Rhino, how Jasper became yours, the story of Jack (since you talked of the beautiful Monster in this book), and any other truly amazing dogs who've touched your heart the way they've touched mine. This book was amazing, well written, included only one typo to my eye ("lung" instead of "lunge") and I'll definitely be looking for more books to read in between bingeing the show.

My heartfelt thanks too you, your family and your rescue that comes into our homes year after year. It is always a learning experience watching a!I of you with unconditional love for all the underdogs. I have a chronic/terminal illness. I have been very sick for yrs. I thank you for your tenacity and courage and above all your love of your dogs/animals. I for one will NEVER forget this amazing journey you have taken me on. Loved this book - it was heartfelt and shared wonderful stories about the dogs who were the stars in their owners eyes. I was moved by the stories and admire the thought behind it. Well done!

Started reading this at noon today and couldn't put it down till I was finished reading it. 5 hours later, and in awe of this amazing lady. I've been watching the show since it aired and have cried during many episodes. Reading this book made me laugh and cry so many times. Tia is such a down to earth lady and will do anything for her kids, 2 legged and 4. Remembering all the dogs mentioned in this book brought back memories of each dog as they were in the show. Bluie and Tania's story, both in the show and again in the book had me crying like a baby. Keep up the amazing job you do and God Bless you and your family. Truly an amazing animal loving family🐕🐕

This book is a must read for anyone who loves animals and especially those working in various rescue groups. It is heartwarming and tear producing, and you will be inspired in the reading of Tia's stories. The only recommendation is that she write another one or 10 as we would love to read more stories of her life with her dog and human family. I highly recommend this book because you will not be bored as her writing is spot-on, and your spirit will be uplifted hearing about her life and her hardships along the way. Her main theme in her book and her life is never let life get you down where you feel helpless. Fall down, get up and do it all again and again until you get it right. Thank You Tia Torres for being such a shining example for us all.

I am a regular watcher of the program (though mostly in reruns). Tia and her family and parolee workers are always entertaining. And you can't help but grasp the love that they have for the dogs. But this was special ... in that it delves into the back stories of dogs that have been pivotal in Tie's live and the lives of her children. The extra benefit is that she is a really good writer ... something that many who sell books can't honestly say! I'd be surprised if you didn't find yourself belly-laughing at one scene and weeping at another. Which is at the heart of every relationship we have with our dogs. Wonderful story! I really enjoyed her approach to sharing events in her life. What a tough cookie! I had no expectations that the book would be any more than what it was, a young, amazing girl telling her story as an athlete. Every once in a while I would remember that she is deaf and that would add to the incredible story, but she did not focus on that challenge; it was more about her journey in a very difficult and dangerous sport that she loves! I am so glad she retired in one piece and is giving back by teaching motocross to girls and women. You go girl!

My 16 year-old daughter is a reluctant reader at best, but a great motocross rider, riding since the age of 4. She has been fascinated by Ashley Fiolek since she was about 12, but never knew of her deafness until a couple of years later watching her on the podium! This is a well written biography that will interest most any child or parent for that matter. It shows the ups and downs of a child's motocross career from the first ride to a Pro career. It isn't a difficult read, but contains plenty of technical terms for readers familiar with motocross, while not confusing non-riders. I really enjoyed reading about Ashley's family's choices that helped her deal with her deafness and encouraging her unique talent. Well worth the read.

Bought this book for my 6 year old Daughter. Ashley is her all time favorite rider!!Ashley is her idol!!Great read, lots of encouraging words for younger girls as well as TRUTH and the hardship and sacrifices that goes into being a serious motocross competitor not just for the rider but their family as well. Ashley is an amazing talented rider and an absolutely wonderful role model for the younger female riders.

I absolutely loved this book! It's a terrific read for fans of motocross, but also tons of fun for those who don't know a lot about the sport - Fiolek does a wonderful job of explaining what certain motocross terms mean to welcome new fans. I've already read it twice. Fiolek's memoir is detailed and fun to read. It was worth every penny.

I enjoyed every page of your book; the ups and downs of motocross life, the successes, the setbacks all make it what it is. Your positive attitude and reflective nature make this book beautiful to read. As a woman who came to dirt bikes late in life, I crave female role models in this sport. Good book

I was recommended this book by a friend. I knew nothing about motocross before reading it but love biographies about fascinating personalities. Ashley's story is really cool and inspiring and it's a great example of someone who took a disability (her deafness in this case) and was able to turn it into an asset.Great read, I recommend it!

I live in SF and just this past summer I finally had the chance to eat at State Bird Provisions (because I was willing to come back an hour later for a 9pm seating and eat by myself at the bar....) Everything I tried was fantastic (if a bit saltier than I'm accustomed to), so I was excited to see what recipes would be available in their cookbook. *Since there was no Look Inside feature when I posted my review, I've included the index so you can see what's offered*About half of the dishes I tried and loved are included in their cookbook, including many of their justifiably famous pancakes (my favorites were the everything pancakes), the fried garlic bread with burrata, the duck liver mousse with duck fat financiers, ice cream sandwiches, and of course, at the very front, the State Bird with Provisions.Here's the critical thing you need to know - the complete dishes contained in this book require multiple steps (often within multiple sub recipes). They require time, quite a few ingredients, and in some cases, special equipment (like a dehydrator for all the corn, sauerkraut, and porcini dusts that finish a variety of dishes). You absolutely can recreate the genius dishes from State Bird Provisions, but it will require a pretty significant investment of time (and money, in some cases.)To be sure, there are some approachable recipes, like a multitude of great vinaigrettes. The tip to use a little sourdough starter in your pancake batter and to let it rest is worthwhile for all pancakes you might make, not just these. There's a lot to learn from within this staggering cookbook.I'll update my review once I've tried a few things.

We've tried 3 recipes so far from this wonderful book and are impressed with the level of detail that Stuart and Nicole provided. The photos are fantastic, but while I love looking at cookbooks, the true test is in the end result you put on the table. While both my husband and I are experienced cooks/bakers and love challenging recipes ~ I think any level of experience would find success with this book. The details are specific and the photos (i.e., the layout and instructions for the ice cream sandwiches) guide you through what might be intimidating steps. I have actually been to this restaurant and am pleased to confirm that the recipes I have tried came pretty close to the originals I enjoyed at the fabulous restaurant!

I gave it for a gift, & they loved it!

This was a gift, and my sister loved it. More about style and culture than actual recipes (although enough of that too), this is great reading.

INTRODUCTION pre review stepFor me to be CISSP certified is a dream, I am too busy in my work and home , I was trying to be certified since 2013, since that I bought every study guide and practice exam , however I can not complete them because the material is tooooo dry and after reading first 10 pages I feel sleepy and I loose the reading mood, also the exam duration was 6 hours, now in 2018 they reduce the time to three hours, I was excited, because after two and half hours there is no way I can Focus ._( THE BOOK REVIEW START HERE )This is the only book among all of the CISSP materials give me the mood to read from 1% till15% without feeling That IWant to sleep,The way and the explanations are perfect there are no useless words within this book , some other books you find many useless pages just for wasting your time with useless information,In this book they mention everything you need to know to PASS the CISSP certification precisely, they also mentioned clearly that DON'T REALLY ON SINGLE RESOURCE FOR YOU CISSP JOURNEY,The book to the point , give you what you need to understand the 8 domains ,I guess it it good starting point and med point, in other words , after reading this book consider reading another bigger book to have better understanding of the concepts and the terminologies such as cybex study guide or all on one CISSP books for detail explanation, or use YouTube for this purpose.NOTE:I did not tried any of the online resources yet, this review is for the content of the book ONLY

Book seems great, but all of the links are missing from the digital version. The book will having something along the lines of: "See ISC2's website( )"I contacted Amazon and they instructed me to trying deleting the book and reinstalling it on my device. Unfortunately this didn't work, and I was ultimately refunded for the book, and asked to try and purchase it again to see if it made any difference. The purchase price of the book has gone up in the last week (not a great deal but that is irritating), and once purchased again it turns out the links are still not there.

I found this book difficult to read. From the start, the authors spent too much time adding humor that it took away from the content I wanted to learn. I could only get 1/3rd through the book before I decided to use other resources. The good news is, I did pass my CISSP exam.

I received this book, in a zip lock bag, I just now opened it and the book looks all beat up and used the cover is torn a little. Hopefully the material is intact and there are no highlighting ect.. For a book I bought new, this one is very much used.

If you are studying for the CISSP exam this is an amazing resource of knowledge.

This is very concise.

Read this book first, before you get into the official material.
